What is a Chemical Peel?

A peel is a clinical treatment that can lead to visibly improved skin appearance. Peels are often categorised by their depth: superficial, medium and deep. The deeper the peel, the more dramatic skin improvement can be achieved.

The peels can help treat fine lines, acne, scaring, and pigmentation.

We offer four different peels by Medik8 depending on your skin concerns. Theses peels are the Lightpeel, Whitepeel, Betapeel and Agepeel. All these peels are Superficial Level 1. If you are interested in medium or deep peels they may be suggested by your therapist or available upon request. Feel free to contact us if you are interested.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it hurt?

Not particularly, you will feel more of a light tingling, itching and/or stinging feeling.

What happens during the treatment?

Firstly we will double cleanse your skin before using a solution that removes all excess oils to prepare the skin for the peel. We then apply the peel and wait 3 or so minutes before removing and neutralising the peel. A deeply soothing and nourishing bio-cellulose mask is placed on the skin. This mask is enriched with hyaluronic acid to help calm, restore and hydrate skin.  We then finish with products to help heal the skin further.

When will I start to see results?

Visible skin needling results will usually require multiple sessions. A significant improvement will be noticeable after 4-6 sessions depending on the original skin concern.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience a mild sunburnt feeling after your treatment lasting anywhere from 2-48 hours. After your skin will being to shed and have a mild peel to it.

How often will I need to get it done?

We recommend for clients to get treatments fortnightly to monthly but they can be done as soon as 2 weeks after your last needling session. Best results are seen after 6 treatments.

Can this treatment be done in conjunction with other facial treatments?

Skin needling and the Medik8 Peels can be done alternatively every 2 weeks for best results. You can continue with Medik8 facial treatments one week after a needling or skin peel treatment.

What health conditions must I not have to be suitable for skin needling?

Clients that suffer from the following are not recommended for skin needling:

  • Diabetes

  • Use of prescription Vitamin A (eg. Roaccutane) within 12 months

  • Immunosuppressive disorders

  • Pregnant or nursing

  • Active cold sores

  • Open sores or lesions

  • Localised infections

  • Recent cosmetic procedures (allow 14 days from cosmetic procedures such as relaxant and filler)

  • Recent surgical procedures

I have skin issues elsewhere on my body. Can I get that treated as well?

Yes we can. Feel free to contact us for a skin consult to discuss treatments.

What must I do before my chemical peel treatment?

Research has shown that the use of topical Vitamin C and Vitamin A throughout a course of treatments can maximise the results of this skin rejuvenation. For more information on this please visit our blog on Medik8’s CSA Philosophy.

It is recommended to have started using a Vitamin C and Vitamin A treatment at least 2 weeks prior to your first peel, lightPeel.

What must I do after my Chemical Peel treatment?

Please avoid touching your skin until you are ready to cleanse your skin again, leaving your skin alone until morning is acceptable if your treatment was carried out in the late afternoon or evening. Other guidelines that are important to follow include;

  • Mineral make up is fine to place immediately after treatment. All other makeup and foundations must can be used after 24 hours.

  • Ensure you are using an SPF 30+ daily. Your skin is more susceptible to the sun so keep sun exposure to a minimum.

  • Continue using Vitamin A and C daily after treatment to ensure maximum results.

Please contact the clinic if you have any concerns or further queries with Chemical Peels. Call us on 1300 AIM WELL or book your appointment online.
