What is Remedial Massage and is it Right for Me?
Remedial massage is the systematic assessment and treatment of muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in restoring function, recovering from injury and maintaining a favourable environment for our body to work and function at its optimum.
A remedial therapist must have knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology to determine where and when to treat patients. If the patient is suitable for remedial massage and relying on the patient’s feedback to identify the areas that require attention, the therapist can then proceed with the appropriate treatment.
A standard treatment will include a discussion about your health and relevant previous medical history as well as your goals for the treatment outcome. This might include things like; relieving neck and shoulder pain from sitting at your desk all day, providing relief to sore and tired muscles post gym workout or simply unwinding from the week. Your therapist will then decide the best course of action and proceed with a treatment that can include deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, hot and cold therapy or dry needling.
